I Receive

I wait, pray and listen for direction from Holy Spirit on what image to paint knowing only that today two people–Heidi and Devon–will tell the story of their spiritual journey of being lost, then found by Jesus. While singing songs, I hear the line, ‘I surrender at the feet of Jesus.’ I get an image of a man kneeling in joy and gratitude at the foot of the cross giving his life to God.
Brie, before interviewing Heidi and Devon, emphasizes the importance of understanding, ‘How do we receive Jesus?’ And that there is no one way, but rather there as many ways as there are people. As Heidi and Devon tell their journeys, everyone is moved. They each have received Jesus in their own unique way, but one thing is universal: Jesus has sought and found them by calling to them from the cross. Like the woman in Luke 15, who searches urgently for her lost coin, Jesus continues night and day seeking and finding the lost–offering his very own resurrected life in exchange for ours.
I am just now seeing a ‘funny coincidence’ in Brie asking the question ‘How do we receive Jesus?’ because I have been looking for ways to feel more gratitude in my life. Yet, I often don’t take the time to simply remember my own journey of how I first received the Gift.
