As I stand and wait, focusing on the theme of Luke 15, the story of The Lost Sheep, I see images of Jesus rescuing and holding a sheep on his shoulders. I relate deeply with this story since I have felt completely lost more times than I can count. But, I pause sensing there is more to this story for me to uncover. After we finish singing, Doug invites everyone to partake in the communion ‘wine’ representing Jesus' blood, and the bread representing Christ’s body. Doug talks about how The Lamb voluntarily shed His blood on the cross, and that the Father surrendered His only Son for our sake. Then, I’m hit with a rush of emotion as I suddenly see it! An image of The Lamb being held by The Shepard-Father, covered by the Holy Spirit as a blazing ray cascading from a bright morning sky. Later Doug alludes to Psalm 23 and I see blood and water rushing out of The Lamb filling up a pool of ‘still water’ as countless sheep, resting gratefully on their knees, drink in New Life.
What greater rescue could there be than The Shepard Himself becoming the lost sheep–becoming sin–so we could be found in Him...raised to life forever!
‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ –Luke 15:6
